Bob Compton
Founder, Chairman & CEO
Prior to founding Vontoo, Bob Compton had several careers over the past 30 years – IBM Systems Engineer, Professional Venture Capitalist, Angel Investor, President of a NYSE Company, Filmmaker and Entrepreneur. As an entrepreneur, angel investor and professional venture capitalist, he has been active in over 30 businesses including software, telecommunication services, healthcare services, medical devices and entertainment.
At NYSE-traded Sofamor Danek (Memphis, TN), Compton helped lead the largest spinal medical device company in the world. Sofamor Danek grew to $400 million in sales under his leadership and was acquired by Medtronic for $3.7 billion. He invested in the company in 1988, when sales where only a few million dollars and served on the Board of Directors, in addition to becoming President & COO in 1997.
He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and an Honorary Doctorate from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He has served as a Trustee on over a dozen non-profit organizations, including as a past Trustee of the Kauffman Foundation, a $1.8 billion foundation dedicated to accelerating entrepreneurship and The Plough Foundation in Memphis, TN.
He was also the Executive Producer of the award-winning documentary, Two Million Minutes: A Global Examination. The film compares and contrasts the high school experience in the U.S., India and China.
Walter Meyer
COO & Director of Product Development
Walter Meyer is the COO and Director of Product Development for Vontoo, a market leading provider of automated voice messaging solutions. In this role, he is responsible for day to day operations of the company, software development, systems architecture, operations, and customer support.
Meyer began his career as a computer consultant 14 years ago and has been driven to constantly seek new challenges. Early on, while working on a computer science degree at the University of Iowa, he helped define the technology focus of e-commerce related course work at the university’s College of Business. Since then he has worked on exciting projects for many diverse companies such as: Modern Bride, The May Department Stores Company, Bed Bath and Beyond, Spatial Re-Engineering Consultants (SRC), Continental Airlines, and most recently Finish Line. At Finish Line, he was responsible for building the team and infrastructure to support a multi-million dollar e-commerce web site, finishline.com.
Prior to entering the computer technology field, he traveled the world via the United States Navy. Meyer is a graduate of Naval Nuclear Power School, which is considered one of the toughest academic programs in the country.
