University sees marked success using mobile messages to alert students.
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – December 15, 2009 – In an effort to ensure that critical information is not lost among the flood of e-mails that college students receive on a daily basis, Montclair State University (MSU), is utilizing Vontoo voice messaging.
With Vontoo’s permission-based voice technology, MSU is reaching out to differentiated groups of students with messaging that is tailored to the recipient’s interests. Alerting students about campus meetings, housing updates, missing or incomplete student account information, and even campus traffic jams, Vontoo is helping MSU to keep students updated on information pertinent to their student experience.
“E-mail just isn’t always the most efficient way to reach out to college students,” said Jim Davison, strategy and technology analyst at MSU. “Students don’t have the time to read through every e-mail they get and more often than not, they just get deleted – and that’s if they even make it through the spam filter. Phone calls demand that the student address the message. Vontoo is ensuring that important messages are heard and that the right group of students is hearing them.”
In November 2009, MSU started using Vontoo voice messaging to advise perspective students to account for potentially heavy traffic during open house campus visits. Additionally, MSU provided tips on how to effectively manage their open house schedule, including detailed instructions on how to enter campus and where to park.
“By supplementing our existing e-mail notification measures with strategic voice messaging, we dramatically reduced the amount of campus traffic leading up to and following the open house,” said Davison. “And we didn’t get a single complaint about the phone calls.”
